I am a tinkerer at heart – I enjoy finding out how things work, making new things or improving existing things, and learning new things. I also enjoy finding out what other people do!

Started as a carpenter, became a holiday rep in the South of France, became addicted to SCUBA diving, went back to do A levels at 26. Did a HND in Applied Biology with a view to become a Marine biologist but fell out of a tree and ended up working in the National Blood Service and became a biomedical Scientist! Been here ever since but have now nearly qualified as an electrician.

A married father of two who has been working in pharmaceuticals for over 20 years. My role involves deciding which batches can be sold and which batches need to be rejected.

I’m a Spanish scientist working at Cambridge. I enjoy crafts and I love a good mystery in any flavour (lab work, suspense books and murder series are always welcome).

Latest Question:what makes the hottest fire please?
I’m from Scotland and I’ve been to two different universities to do an undergrad and a masters. I’ve travelled, worked and lived overseas and now live near Oxford.
I work in digital forensics but being a keen bodybuilder I think the human body and biology is incredible and fascinating.

I am an Instrument Scientist at the ISIS Neutron & Muon source. My favourite thing is learning about the world around me and I love the countryside, dogs and chocolate!

I am 37 years old Mexican Oceanographer. I have a 9 years old son. l love nature and especially the ocean. I love snorkeling, diving, and paddleboard, hiking, camping, and dancing. I like cooking but hate cleaning up… I like to travel and meet new people, places, cultures. I currently live in Ecuador but work for the UK National Oceanography Centre.

Latest Question:What is the coolest thing about your work/research?
I’m a scientist who also enjoys being outside (running and hiking) as well as music (playing the violin and singing) and baking for friends.
I live in a small village in Oxfordshire, and love cycling to work. A good day being outside in the hills is the best thing in the world.
Latest Question:What is your favourite thing about science and how did you get into it ?
I came from Hong Kong and am currently a PhD student researching on obesity and diabetes in University of Leeds. I have a lot of interests including singing, learning different languages and working out in the gym.

I am an antimatter physicist, based at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. I am a practical person who likes to design and build things. Outside of work, I enjoy playing football, solving problems with coding or electronics and playing console games.

Very curious and I never know what will interest me until I start finding out about it. Love science and always have done. Like to spend time outdoors, in the garden or hiking up a hill somewhere.
Latest Question:what inspired you to be a scientist?
Scientists get to lead an exciting double life! We love being quiet and focused on our work, but also get to be loud and talk to lots of interesting people (communication is very important in science). And there’s another way I lead a double life: I grew up in America, live in the UK, and am a citizen of both countries!
Latest Question:Is uni a lot harder than college? What did you study? How did you settle? Any tips?
I love space and (unusually for a professional astronomer) I can actually tell you what that star “up there” is 🙂 I like listening to good music, playing some piano and reading about adventure and exploration.

Typical Analytical Scientist – Not the media type Nerd – but like to Have Fun in the job whilst solving serious Oil based chemistry issues

I spent 30 years helping industry, commercial, educational and government bodies with environmental and health issues. I ran a consultancy and an analytical laboratory and employed over 100 people over 20 years. I worked in several countries around the world. I am patient and try to be diligent when faced with difficult challenges, and I try to offer practical answers to help and support people.
