There is no cure specifically for coronavirus at the moment. Patients are given different treatments to relieve the symptoms depending on their case and severity. However, scientists from all over the world are now working together to develop vaccines for prevention and antiviral drugs targeting coronavirus for better treatment- some of them are even undergoing clinical trials to test human response and safety. For now, I am not aware of any absolute cure to coronavirus but would definitely watch out for new information regarding what scientists are finding!

That’s a good question. While my background is in Biology, I should tell you that I am not a medical doctor, and virology (the study of viruses) is not my particular area of research (BBC Bitesize has some information about what a virus is here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z83qfcw/revision/3). However, hopefully I can give you some general information about this.

There are lots of scientists working right now on possible vaccines. There are lots of different ways to attack the virus, and different groups are experimenting with those different ways to see which vaccine will work the best. In general, vaccines work by preparing your body to fight the real virus, usually by teaching your body to recognize what the real virus looks like. However, developing them takes time. Scientists need to find vaccines that will work well, but more importantly that will be safe for us to take (there’s more information here: https://coronavirusexplained.ukri.org/en/article/vdt0005/).

You can help in the meantime by washing hands frequently, wearing a mask where appropriate, and keeping a safe distance from people outside of your family/school bubble.

Please remember that this information is accurate for the day I have written this, and if you’re reading this answer at a later date, this answer may no longer be correct. For up to date information, you can always look here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

      Hi there,

there isn’t a cure yet, but there are multiple fantastic scientists who are getting closer and closer. The best thing that you can do just now is reduce the spread and protect yourself by washing your hands frequently, wearing a mask where physical distancing is difficult and maintaining good hygiene practices when sneezing or coughing.
