I spend 4 years doing an undergraduate masters degree (MSci) and then another 4 at a different university studying a for a postgraduate doctoral degree (PhD). And after a few years working at labs I’m back at uni again, but as an employee not a student.
I think that’s pretty common (in the UK) for people who want to go into academic research. But you can do it faster, or there are plenty of science jobs that only need a 3 year BSc or a non-university route.

I did 1 year of a Civil Engineering course and hated it, took a year out then did 3 years to get a BSC in Chemistry with Information Technology and Instrumentation. I left at that point as I wanted to work rather than continue studying.

      I did 4 years full-time and a further 12 years part-time.

I have 5 degrees, a couple of diplomas, a couple of Post-graduate certificates and a couple of post-graduate diplomas. Currently have an unfinished degree to complete at Cambridge when I get the time.

I think it depends on the country, but this is what I’ve studied in Spain. I spent 5 years doing an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology, another year doing a Masters in Cancer and 4 and a half years doing my PhD.

4 years as an undergraduate; 1 year getting a MSc (Master’s degree), and then about 5 years getting my PhD. My PhD took a little longer than usual as I was working full time as a researcher at the same time, so my PhD was only part time.

I did a four year undergraduate degree in biological sciences with a year studying abroad in australia. Then I worked in our lab for a year and then i started my four year PhD. So when i’ll finish I’ll have spent 8 years studying but 9 years at the university in total!
