My favourite was TRIFIC, which is the TRIUMF (Name of the lab) Fast Ion Counter. It is a cylinder full gas and hair-thin wires. The wires divide up the gas into sections to look at the amount energy an particle looses as it slows down. From this we can work out what type of particle it was.
It’s not my favourite because it’s the newest or the most clever, but because I was completely in charge of the project and it worked really well.
