      We do not know.

      There are lots of animals we monitor that we think are close to extinction, like tigers, but we also know there are many species we do not know about, or might not be monitoring correctly.

      Keep in mind that extinction is also a natural process. As environments change, so does everything that lives within that environment. The best example is the dinosaur but in more recent times the dodo and wild bison also suffered the same fate.
