A typical cold will last about 10 days, with the body’s immune system eventually getting rid of the infection on its own. During the life of the cold, it can seem to actually get worse. Sometimes, complications may arise that require a doctor’s intervention. For more info, you can read this: https://www.healthline.com/health/cold-flu/go-away

No virus ‘cures itself’ whether a cold or chicken pox. It is our immune systems that spot the virus as something alien to our bodies and then produces the white blood cells and immune response to fight it off. Having a high temperature is also a way our body fights back as viruses typically don’t like being warm but we can cope for a while whilst it kills the virus off.
